I think the reason they have this issue is because they choose to leave the video in raw format on the drive. The benifits of this would be that in the event of a power failure you are only likely to loose a second or two of footage and then you can also choose FAT32, or NTFS depending on the computer you are working with. At this point it is probably best for you to conact NNovia support directly to get all of your questions answered by one of the Suppor Representatives. I would hate to provide any incorrect information. I hope your filming goes well!

Hi and many thank you. I used Nnovia in NTFS and precision is much better! For me is quite impossible to start and stop scenes 3-4 sec after/before. So..I will use it in NTFS but one pc with Windows 2000 don't read it. The notebook with Vista read it. I will make a double pass. But...there are no HD recorders with a complete precision? I have a camera SONY DSR 390 and I know that the old Hd Sony dsr 1u was perfect but only with 40gb Hd.....thank you. Giorgio from Italy.

Giorgio, thanks for posting! I don't have the manual in front of me right now but I am pretty sure they talk about your problem there. The way the media files works is that the files are written in 2 second chunks or so. This means that it is possible that you will see a few seconds of the last file in the next file. The best "solution" to this is to allow proper time between the action and you stopping the camera, that way nothing is missed or moved onto the wrong file. You should also roll for 5 seconds before starting action if possible. So when you start to film try to get some padding in there by recording early and also after your done filming, count to five, then stop recording. I hope this helps and I understood you correctly.

I have a problem with Nnovia when I finalize in FAT32..all scenes are cutted. The end of a scene go in the file of the previous scene. It's crazy! Start and stop are perfect syncro with my Sony dsr 390 but when I finalize all become big disaster! There is a solution??? Giorgio from Italy.

As an update to the article, at NAB this April, nNovia will be announcing new features and solutions including a MAC utility for the desktop that converts .m2t files into .mov files for Final Cut Pro. This happens on-the-fly as you transfer your video from the nNovia HDD to your MAC FCP computer ... it is fast. This utility will also enable you to "Makemedia" (the post recording formatting mentioned) ... in case you forgot to do it on the nNovia deck.

Likewise we'll be introducing a similar PC utility that will convert OP1A files to OPAtom which is preferred by Avid NLEs.

Come by and visit us at NAB, booth #SU11321.
