Game Summary

Craig Reichel led fifth ranked Rollins with 17 points as the Tars overpowered the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 76-49 on Saturday afternoon at Warden Arena. The win brings the Tars record to 13-1 while the Sailfish fall to 2-14 on the season.
Reichel led the Tars with 17 points, five boards and three assists going 7-14 from the floor. Senior point guard Jonny Reibel netted 14 points dishing out five assists on the afternoon. Jeremy Sharpe rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points and three rebounds. Junior Chauncey Gibbs had a ’07-’08 season high of nine points and six boards.
The Tars came out hot as they outscored the Sailfish 20-6 in points in the paint, 19-0 in points off of turnovers, 6-0 in fast break points and 18-2 in points off of the bench in the first period. Rollins’ only deficit of the game came in the first 3:10 where they were down by one point with 16:47 remaining. Reichel got the Tars back on track with 12 of his 17 points coming in the first stanza.
As the halftime buzzer sounded, Rollins assembled a 32 point lead over Palm Beach Atlantic, 51-19. The Sailfish only shot 23.3 percent from the field, but made up for it at the line by shooting 83.3 percent in the first half. The Tars fired 57.1 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the stripe.
In the opening seconds of the second half, the Tars’ momentum was in full swing as Kevin Hogan came out by shooting a three for Rollins, 54-19. The sharp shooting continued as Reichel buried a layup followed by a three pointer to give the Tars a 40 point margin over Palm Beach Atlantic, 59-19.
Forward Manny Lopez battled for the Sailfish as he had 16 points in the second period. The Tars (13-1) would finish off the Sailfish with a 27-point victory, 76-49.
Lopez led the 2-14 Sailfish with a double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, January 16 when they host the Nova Southeastern Sharks (6-6, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen to the action live on www.RollinsSports.tv.

Game Summary

Rollins had four chances to tie or take the lead in the final minutes, but couldn’t get the big shots to fall as the No. 4 Tars fell to Tampa 70-66 in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both schools Wednesday. The loss drops Rollins to 10-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play while the Spartans improve to 8-2, 1-0 SSC.
Senior guard Jonny Reibel led the Tars with 24 points, 18 of which came in the second half. He finished just one board shy of a triple double, dishing out 10 assists and pulling down nine rebounds in 40 minutes of action. Junior big man Craig Reichel added 16 points with Nick Wolf putting up nine points off the bench.
Tampa, who recorded their second upset over a ranked opponent in as many games, had all five starters score in double figures. Johnathan Ball led with way with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists while Chris Evans racked up 14 points. Rashad Callaway and Chris King each netted 13 with Jeremy Black adding 10 points and a game high 15 rebounds.
The Tars scored the first bucket, but struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 28 percent. Back to back three pointers by King and another by Evans put the visitors up 14-6 through the first eight minutes before a Kevin Hogan three sparked a 10-5 spurt by Rollins, punctuated by another Hogan trey, to pull the Tars to within three 19-16. UT rolled off a 7-0 run to go up by 10 and would hold a 12 point lead late in the half before heading to the locker room with a 31-21 advantage.
Rollins found their stroke early in the second period and opened the frame on a 16-6 run over the first six minutes. Reichel scored 10 points during the streak, including the game tying trey to make is 37-37. Callaway scored a layup on Tampa’s next trip down the floor to put the Spartans up, but Greg Sweeney Jr. answered for the Tars to keep it knotted. Evans dropped a three for Tampa as the Spartans outscored the Tars 18-11 over the next five minutes to push the advantage to 60-50 with seven minutes left.
The Tars fought all the way back and used a 12-2 run to pull even at 64 with two minutes on the clock. Rollins went cold again and UT connected on four straight free throws to go up four with 41 ticks left. Reibel scored a driving layup to cut the lead in half before Ball hit a free throw to push it back to three. Rollins had one more shot at it in the final seconds, but a Reibel three pointer from the top of the key came up short and the Spartans held on for the victory.
The Tars ended the game shooting 45 percent from the floor, but just 24 percent from beyond the arch. UT won the battle on the boards 38-34.
Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, January 5 when they will travel to Saint Leo for a Sunshine State Conference match-up. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. and fans can listen live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.tv.

Tournament MVP Jonny Reibel led all scorers with 25 points to lead 4th ranked Rollins in a wild 85-83 win over 13th ranked University of South Carolina Aiken in the championship game of the 33rd Annual Winter Park Rotary Tangerine Tournament on Sunday. The Tars win their 13th Tangerine Tournament title to remain a perfect 10-0 on the season, while USC Aiken falls to 9-1.
Five Tars notched points in double-digits with Reibel leading the charge with 25 points and five assists, going 7-13 from the floor, 5-8 from long range and 6-9 from the charity stripe. Guard Jeremy Sharpe added 17 points and Nick Wolf chipped in 15, going 6-6 from the free throw line.
All-Tournament Team member Craig Reichel tallied a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. Kevin Hogan rounded out the scoring effort for the Tars posting 10 points going 3-4 from the field, 2-3 from three point range and 2-3 from the charity stripe.
USC Aiken topped the Tars in points in the paint 20-16, points off of turnovers 17-10, fast break points 4-2 and bench points 22-19.
The Tars started off slow as they were unable to regain the lead until 14:32 left in the first half, 13-11. The Pacers fought back to reclaim the lead with a three pointer by Casey McMasters, 15-17. Rollins would only have the advantage once more in the half at the 7:51 mark with Wolf banking in two free throws, 28-27. From that point on, USC Aiken would take the lead at the end of the first half, 41-37.
Coming out of the locker room at the half, the Tars would once again remain in the deficit until a three point bucket by Wolf at the 13:41 mark, 52-49. Reibel then gained steam notching five three pointers in the second period. With nine seconds left in the game and the Pacers only down one, USC Aiken fouled Wolf sending him to the line for the sixth time.
With the Tars up by three, 83-80, Ryan Ferranti fouled Jeremy Fears where he made a pair of baskets, 83-82. Two free throws by Jeremy Sharpe put the Tars up by three again, 85-82. Fears then made 1-2 free throws to end the game in favor of the Tars 85-83.
Members of the All-Tournament Team included MVP Reibel, Reichel, Commons, Casimir, Flagler’s Ben De La Cruz and Columbia Union’s Maurice Stallion.
The 9-1 Pacers were led by Chris Commons who totaled 22 points and eight rebounds while Fears added 16 points. Cordaryl Ballard and Job Casimir each chipped in 14 points for USC Aiken.
Rollins (10-0) will be back in action when they open their conference season by playing host to the University of Tampa Spartans (7-2) on Wednesday, January 2 at 7:30 p.m. Fans can watch and listen to the action live at www.RollinsSports.tv.

Game Summary

Four Tars scored in double-figures as the fourth-ranked Rollins men’s basketball team took out the Columbia Union Pioneers 92-64 at the 33rd Annual Winter Park Rotary Tangerine Tournament on Saturday evening.
Guard Kevin Hogan led all scorers with 25 points going 7-9 from long range and 9-11 from the floor. Craig Reichel followed closely with a season-high 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Freshman Jeremy Sharpe netted 12 points, including three dunks, going 6-11 from the field. Senior Jonny Reibel finished out the major scoring for the Tars with his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 assists.
Columbia Union held the lead for a brief opening minute of the game 0-2 (18:53). It seemed like it would be all Rollins as the Tars built an 11 point lead over the Pioneers with 10 minutes left in the half. Columbia Union came back to be within one, 24-23, as guard Tim Turner caught fire scoring seven of the Pioneer’s 10 points. The Tars were able to expand their lead going into the locker room as Reichel put Rollins up by seven at halftime buzzer, 41-34.
Hogan’s five points and Reichel’s nine in the opening minutes of the second helped the Tars jump out to a 20 point lead with 14 minutes remaining, 59-39. With five minutes left in the game, Rollins held a 30 point lead over the Pioneers, 82-52. Three pointers by Reibel, Brock Blanchard and Ian Scott put Rollins up by 33 with 1:50 left in the game. Columbia Union would cut that lead to 28 as the final seconds ticked off of the clock, 92-64.
Rollins dominated Columbia Union in the paint outscoring the Pioneers 30 to 12, but the Pioneers battled back with 21 points off of Rollins’ turnovers. The Tars’ bench scored 18, while Columbia Union’s bench tallied 17.
The Pioneers (0-11) were led by guard Dana Clark who notched 20 points and five boards going 4-10 from three point range and 7-19 from the floor. Turner had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The 9-0 Tars will be back in action tomorrow, December 30 in the championship game against No. 13 USC Aiken at 4:30 p.m. Fans can listen and watch the action live at www.RollinsSports.tv.

Game Summary

After thirteen days away from the game court Rollins was able to lock in a 50-40 win over Flagler College in the second half. The Tars move to 5-1 for the season, while the Saints descend to a 2-8 total record.
Leading the Tars for the day was senior guard Jennifer Musgrove who walked away from the court with her first double-double of the season, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds. Musgrove also topped the team with 4 assists, 5 steals, and sinking 5 of 8 free throws.
Right behind Musgrove in points were junior Rachael Malatesta and sophomore Jessica Pressley with 9 points each. Pressley had a stellar day in the paint with an 80% average completing 4 out of 5 field goals. Junior forward Ines Teuma was able to pull in 9 rebounds for the day, leading the Tars in the defensive end.

It was a tough game for both sides, and Rollins was down by four points at the end of a hard-fought first half. After a layup by Teuma got the game started, the Tars were ahead until thirteen minutes left in the half. The Saints were able to match up with the Tars and keep them at bay until eight minutes were left and Rollins was able to put another jumper up on the scoreboard.

The Tars were able to pull out of their slump in the second half, but catching up to the Saints was no easy task. With very strong defensive units fighting for the ball on both ends it made both teams step up their offensive game. After a hard fought second half, Rollins was able to pull ahead of Flagler with nine minutes left and from that point on the Tars were able to hold on to their lead.

Rollins will once again have a long break before their next game. The Tars will have twelve days until they travel to Albany, Georgia, to play Fort Valley State on the 28th and Albany State on the 29th in their first away games of the season. Game Summary

Nick Wolf had a career-high 23 points to lead Rollins past Warner Southern 81-67 on Tuesday evening at Warden Arena. The Tars record improves to 6-0 while the Royals fall to 6-1.

Adding to Wolf’s 23 points (8-11 from the field) and 11 rebounds off the bench was Jonny Reibel with 22 points and nine assists. Kevin Hogan tallied 17 points, behind 5-8 shooting from long-range, while Craig Reichel added had a season-high 10 boards, six points, two assists and one block.

The Tars started off cold, not scoring their first points until almost four minutes into the game when Reibel knocked down his first three pointer of the night, making the score 3-6. Rollins would take the lead from the Royals at the 15 minute mark, 11-8 and built a 39-28 halftime lead.

In the first half, Rollins balanced attack produced 12 points in the paint, six off of turnovers, four second chance points and 13 points off the bench.

The Royals came out of the locker room and cut the lead to nine with a layup from Preston Adams, but the Tars answered back with two free throws from Reibel to push the lead back to double digits, 41-30. The visitors fought back to within four before a pair of layups and a three-pointer by Wolf put the Tars up by nine, 54-45 halfway through the frame. Warner got as close as six with seven minutes left, but the Tars outscored the Royals 18-10 the rest of the way to post the 14 point win and stay perfect on the year.

Adams led the Royals with 15 points and five rebounds while Mike Tolliver notched 14 points going 4-4 from long range.

The Tars (6-0) will be back in action when they travel to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Desert Classic on December 18-19. Again the tournament will feature some of the top teams in Division II with the Tars taking on No. 8 Drury and No. 18 Central Missouri State.

Game Summary

In their first Sunshine State Conference game of the season, the Rollins College women’s basketball team fell to the University of Tampa 61-49. Rollins drops to 4-1 overall, and 0-1 in conference play while the Spartans improved to 7-1, 1-0.

Senior guard Jennifer Musgrove led the Tars in points and assists, pulling in 11 and five respectively. Musgrove also walked away with two steals, nipping the heels of junior guard Rachael Malatesta who snagged three steals from the Spartans.

Junior forward Ines Teuma and sophomore guard Jessica Pressley followed close behind Musgrove with nine points for the day. Teuma was also able to bring in the most rebounds for Rollins, posting three offensive and four defensive boards, bringing her to 42 for the season. Malatesta came in second with a total of six, while sophomore Brittainy Daiger had five.

The game got off to a slow start for the Tars. Pressley connected on two from the charity stripe with 13:15 left in the first half, but the Tars were unable to post any more points until 20 attempts into the game with a lay-up by Teuma. With Teuma’s basket, the Tars were still behind the Spartans 4-10.

Rollins was able to equal the score with Tampa at 10 with six minutes to go in the first half, but the Spartans pulled quickly ahead to finish the half at 23-16. Rollins was unable to come back from their defecit for the rest of the game.

Five Tars scored in double-figures as the 8th ranked Rollins College men’s basketball team downed the St. Thomas University Bobcats 86-63 on Friday evening at Warden Arena.
Craig Reichel and Brock Blanchard led the Tars with 17 points each with Reichel grabbing six rebounds. Jonny Reibel talled 15 points and eight assists while Greg Sweeney Jr. went 5-5 from the field, notching a season-high 12 points and six assists. Freshman Jeremy Sharpe totaled 10 points, going 5-6 from the floor. Freshman Nick Wolf had a career-high seven assists and seven boards.
The Tars (5-0) shot 65 percent from the field with 42 points in the paint, 22 points off of turnovers and an impressive 30 points off the bench.
The Tars and Bobcats kept it close at the start of the first half, but by the end of the stanza Rollins built a solid 17 point lead over St. Thomas with a layup from Wolf (41-24).
Rollins came out firing in the second half with an immediate three-pointer by Reichel to give the Tars a 20 point lead. The Tars would keep at least 20 point between them and the Bobcats until the final buzzer. Blanchard was a catalyst in the second half, registering 12 of his 17 total points.
Antonio Jones led the 3-2 Bobcats with 26 points going 14-19 from the charity stripe. Forward Reginald Owens tallied 18 points and eight boards going 50 percent from the floor.
