The Simple Flash Video Plugin builds on the plugins that all ready allow easy posting of .flv or .mp4 files on the popular WordPress platform. Simple Flash Video allows for all of the JW FLV options to be utilized via its config.xml file and post level overrides. With this plugin you can easily post .flv or .mp4 videos to your blog and have your viewers instantly watch the video without having to fully download the video before watching. It also combines the popular Shadowbox utility to allow for the videos to float over the website content for a clean look. This plugin was built from the ground up to take full advantage of the JW FLV Player and Shadowbox. On top of this it is the only plugin for WordPress that utilizes the Simple Stats App for JW that gives users a total look at the video viewership of their website. Code has been used from the Flash Video Player by Joshua Eldridge as per the licence agreements of the respective software.   • Added Google Shopping Cart
  • “Quotes” Can now be used to encase variable values that have spaces. Ex: title=”My Awesome Title”. This is backwards compatible so you do not have to update your old posts and you can even mix and match variables with and without quotes.
  • Updated to JW FLV 4.6

  • Reduced Main replacement Function by 50% and reduced complexity.
  • ADDED meta data for shadowbox, video title, and arguments so theme authors can intergrate SFV into a theme.
  • ADDED Option in Admin for meta info. Defaults to false (off).
  • Bits on the run now includes height and width in the config.xml so if you do not override the setting in the command it use what bits is set to. If you want to change the default of that player change it @ bitsontherun.com and all players using that tempalte will get updated.
  • ADDED click_title as argument for command line so you can override the default click title.

  • Admin option to turn Meta info on and off. Defaults to off
  • Bits on the run has added with and hight to config so it now will use the default values unless you override them in the post command
  • Added click_title argument so you can chanage the text under the image for each video. Requires similar use to the title where there are no space. Example: click_title=some&nbsp;title
  • Default option for powered by bits on the run. Use this if most of your videos are hosted by bits on the run.
  • botr argument to either enable or disable use of the bits on the run technology on a per video basis example: botr=true</li>
  • Description is now set from title or Description value.
  • Bits on the run now uses the .swf link instead of mp4 link.

STPENC is a free, for non-commercial, open source application that allows you to utilize FFMPEG and x264 to encode video files to either h264 mp4 or mpeg2 files and upload them if needed. It is written in Python and is distributed using Py2EXE. It is our hope to make it easier for people to create great quality video for the web in a format that can easily be used with Simple Flash Video or any Flash player.

STPENC allows for easy encoding into:

  • H.264
  • MPEG2 for NTSC-DVD
  • XVID
  • Thumbnails for use with Simple Flash Video WordPress Plugin

It also allows for uploading of encoded files via FTP, FTP w/ SSL, and SFTP.

What is Simple Stats?

Simple Stats is a simple to install and easy to use statistics package for JW’s FLV player. It originally started as a simple Ruby script and has since evolved into a high quality professional package that is much, much faster through the use of aggressive caching and smarter code.

Simple stats consists of Javascript, PHP, and Python components. The Javascript component gathers statistics while the PHP and Python components log and process the log, respectively.

Please note that currently Simple Stats works ONLY for videos hosted on the same domain as the Simple Stats scripts (i.e. not embedded on other domains) because of browser restrictions (cross-site request restrinctions to prevent malicious attacks). It is possible to setup proxy logger scripts on other domains to which you embed but this is not included in Simple Stats at this time.

Installation

Extract the contents of the zip or compressed tar archive to your server and allow the web server write access to the extracted directory and its contents. Then navigate to the extracted directory in a web browser and follow the instructions.

The Simple Flash Video Plugin builds on the plugins that all ready allow easy posting of .flv or .mp4 files on the popular WordPress platform. Simple Flash Video allows for all of the JW FLV options to be utilized via its config.xml file and post level overrides. With this plugin you can easily post .flv or .mp4 videos to your blog and have your viewers instantly watch the video without having to fully download the video before watching. It also combines the popular Shadowbox utility to allow for the videos to float over the website content for a clean look. New Site

Simple Thought Productions is proud to introduce their new website. The new theme keeps with the styling of the older one but with a more modern feel as well as enhancements such as the featured articles/video scroller that is at the top of the home page. It was designed by Elegant Themes

New Delivery Method

Also new to the line up is our delivery method. We have utilized lighttpd as our web server, powered by Layered Tech, for nearly a year now. Along with lighttpd we utilized the streaming h264 module for our on demand content which is what a majority of this site/server hosts. On short form videos (15 minutes or less) This solution provided a near identical experience to a true streaming setup for our viewers. Some of our longer videos however had a small lag before beginning while the server prepared the file on the fly. To remedy this Simple Thought Productions has deployed a true RTMP Streaming server Powered by Wowza Streaming Media Server. This server provides instant video streaming as well as additional benifits such as better bandwidth management, stream secuirty, and the ability to do live broadcasts which was not possible with Lighttpd.

Installation

  1. Download and unzip Simple Flash Video.
  2. Transfer Simple-Flash-Video directory to your `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
  3. CHMOD the config.xml to be writable by the server, 666 or better
  4. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress

Usage

To use the plugin you simply need to insert: Simple Flash Video 1.6 RC3
into your post.

You can add the following variables after the filename variable:

  • shadowbox=off – Disables ThickBox and simply puts the player into the post
  • embed=true – Uses embed code instead of SWFObject Code
  • vid_image= – set the URL of an image to use for the video link instead of the default.
  • ALL JW FLV Variables in lower case format ex: width=200 Simple Flash Video 1.6 RC3

For the Stats simply goto the SFV Stats page that is linked under the main admin page. From there you can see the over all stats or search for a specific file or IP address.

F.A.Q

Q: I cannot get the stream.php working what is wrong?
A: to use it you have to set the stream variable to the location and file. So for most people this will be: /wp-content/plugins/simple-flash-video/stream.php – If you have your WP install in a subfolder that will have to be added. Also, if you are using Lighty Webserver please use its FLV Mod instead of the stream.php

Q: I have activated the plugin, but don’t see the video player. What do I do?
A: Check and make sure that you have the appropriate hook in your template file for the header: wp_head();

Q: How do I change a setting for a single post?
A: If you just want to change a single value for one video you can do it by modifying the code in your post. To Change the hight you would simply put: Simple Flash Video 1.6 RC3
You can put any of the variables in this way using all lower case variablenames without spaces in the name.

Q: How do I change the defaults?
A: The config.xml file contains all of the current variables of JW FLV 4.0 . You can modify this file to change any of the default settings that the plugin will use.
