Game Summary

Nick Wolf had a career-high 23 points to lead Rollins past Warner Southern 81-67 on Tuesday evening at Warden Arena. The Tars record improves to 6-0 while the Royals fall to 6-1.

Adding to Wolf’s 23 points (8-11 from the field) and 11 rebounds off the bench was Jonny Reibel with 22 points and nine assists. Kevin Hogan tallied 17 points, behind 5-8 shooting from long-range, while Craig Reichel added had a season-high 10 boards, six points, two assists and one block.

The Tars started off cold, not scoring their first points until almost four minutes into the game when Reibel knocked down his first three pointer of the night, making the score 3-6. Rollins would take the lead from the Royals at the 15 minute mark, 11-8 and built a 39-28 halftime lead.

In the first half, Rollins balanced attack produced 12 points in the paint, six off of turnovers, four second chance points and 13 points off the bench.

The Royals came out of the locker room and cut the lead to nine with a layup from Preston Adams, but the Tars answered back with two free throws from Reibel to push the lead back to double digits, 41-30. The visitors fought back to within four before a pair of layups and a three-pointer by Wolf put the Tars up by nine, 54-45 halfway through the frame. Warner got as close as six with seven minutes left, but the Tars outscored the Royals 18-10 the rest of the way to post the 14 point win and stay perfect on the year.

Adams led the Royals with 15 points and five rebounds while Mike Tolliver notched 14 points going 4-4 from long range.

The Tars (6-0) will be back in action when they travel to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Desert Classic on December 18-19. Again the tournament will feature some of the top teams in Division II with the Tars taking on No. 8 Drury and No. 18 Central Missouri State.

Game Summary

The Rollins women’s basketball team opened the 2007-08 season in dominating fashion, defeating Warner Southern 79-30 at Warden Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Tars’ win marks their 14th consecutive home opener victory, improving their record to 1-0 on the season, while the Royals dropped to 1-4.
Senior guard Jennifer Musgrove scored 19 points, one shy of her career-high 20, and she was one rebound short of her seventh career double-double. She also led all players with five assists, and she was one of six Rollins players with two or more steals. Junior center Ines Teuma also scored in double digits, adding 10 points on 3-5 shooting from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line. All but one of Rollins’ 15 players scored at least one point, with the Tars’ bench accounting for 40 points.
Rose Charles led the Royals with 12 points, including a 6-6 performance at the free throw line. Warner Southern struggled as a whole, shooting 15.7 percent from the field, including 1-14 from three-point territory. The Royals also committed 29 turnovers, which led to 38 Rollins points.
Royals guard Ronke Allen scored the team’s only three-pointer to open the game, but Rollins responded with a 24-2 run over the next 6:10 minutes, including 13 points by Musgrove and six by junior guard Rachael Malatesta. The Tars continued their hot shooting through the end of the half, finishing with a 12-2 run over the last 4:37 of the opening period. Rollins shot a blistering 51.4 percent (19-37) in the first half.
The Tars cooled off in the second half, shooting 18.4 percent (7-38), but the team used the second period to give experience to many of its younger players. Even though Rollins did not fare as well in the second half, Warner Southern was even worse, shooting 6.9 percent (2-29). The Tars held their biggest lead when freshman guard Morgan Loughrey scored a fast break layup, pushing the score to 75-25 and the team’s lead to 50.
Rollins held a huge advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the opponents 58-37, including 26 offensive rebounds. Freshman forward Janelle DeVaul had an impressive debut, tallying seven boards in just 11 minutes. The Tars’ also featured a swarming defense, accounting for 17 steals, including five by freshman guard Jessica Pressley.
The Tars will host Puerto Rico-Cayey in the second game of the men’s-women’s doubleheader at Warden Arena on Wednesday, November 21. Tip-off for the women’s game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and fans can watch and listen to all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at www.RollinsSports.tv.
